I’m currently recruiting for an Infrastructure Architect to join a large, high-profile programme delivering secure IT services within the Defence and Government sector. This is a Basingstoke-based role working on complex, mission-critical infrastructure in a highly regulated environment.
Security clearance
Due to the nature of the programme, candidates must be eligible and willing to undergo a high level of UK security clearance.
The role
As an Infrastructure Architect, you’ll join a team of System Architects responsible for designing, building, and delivering secure infrastructure solutions. The focus of the role is a network management infrastructure supporting a global WAN service, requiring strong technical breadth across enterprise WINTEL platforms.
You’ll work closely with delivery teams, project managers, and third-party suppliers to implement change safely and effectively.
Key responsibilities
In this role, you will:
- Design and deliver infrastructure solutions to meet evolving customer and programme requirements
- Lead and contribute to architectural change across a network management infrastructure supporting a global WAN
- Produce and maintain technical documentation including HLDs, LLDs, and Build Guides
- Impact change requests, providing BOMs and resourcing estimates
- Engage with third-party vendors to resolve technical issues
- Provide 3rd and 4th line support when required
WINTEL experience – key skill areas
I’m looking to speak with candidates who have broad WINTEL infrastructure experience, which may include a combination of the following areas (not all are required):
Core Windows & Identity
- Windows Server (2012 onwards)
- Active Directory (AD DS, DNS, DHCP)
- Group Policy design and management
- Identity, authentication, and access control
Platform & Virtualisation
- VMware / Hyper-V virtualisation platforms
- Windows server build, hardening, and lifecycle management
- Integration with physical and virtual infrastructure
Microsoft Enterprise Services
- IIS and application hosting platforms
- Microsoft SQL Server (basic administration, clustering, or availability concepts)
- Certificate Services (PKI)
- File and print services
Management, Automation & Monitoring
- System Center tools (e.g. SCOM, SCCM/MECM)
- Patch management and OS deployment
- PowerShell scripting and automation
- Monitoring, alerting, and performance management
