Role Summary
The Manager, Fuel Accounting is responsible for executing the strategy for all aspects of the expense reimbursement process and fuel accounting, including invoice and payment recording, inventory accounting, accruals, reconciliations, and compliance for Alaska Air Group. As a people leader, this role establishes priorities for the team to ensure all expense reimbursement and fuel-related payments are processed and accounted for timely, and in compliance with internal, state, and federal regulations.
Key Duties
Develop and execute departmental strategy, creating action plans that drive efficiency and reduce costs.
Recommend process improvements and financial system enhancements, securing leadership support.
Responsible for monitoring and reporting departmental budgets and expenditures.
Make decisions as the subject-matter expert in Fuel Accounting, applying GAAP, SOX, and internal control best practices.
Compile and analyze financial data to ensure proper accounting treatment of fuel transactions.
Responsible for financial close functions such as review journal entries for fuel activity, prepaids, accruals, and inventory.
Develop partnerships cross-functionally with Supply Chain, Accounting, Freighter, Product, and Engineering teams to maintain cost control and accuracy.
Oversee fuel and accounts payable accounting for the Amazon Freighter line of business, ensuring timely billing of reimbursable expenses.
Ensure expense reimbursements are made timely and in adherence to company policies.
Build and maintain audit program to support expense reimbursements.
Serve as point of contact in internal and external SOX audit testing and walkthroughs.
Evaluate opportunities to improve team productivity and efficiency while maintaining compliance.
Lead and develop team members through performance management, delegation, and ongoing feedback.
Shape team culture through presence, action, and reinforcement of company values.
Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills
Required
5+ years of accounting or relevant experience.
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related discipline, or additional two years relevant training/experience in lieu of this degree.
Strong knowledge of GAAP.
Excellent strategy, organizational, project management, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
High energy, positive presence, and strong communication skills (written and verbal).
Innovative, resilient, and solutions-focused mindset with ability to manage multiple priorities.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, leveraging data for decision-making.
Ability to influence and communicate effectively across divisions and leadership levels.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Flexibility to work schedules based on business needs.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Minimum age of 18.
Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
Preferred
Direct supervisory experience with a demonstrated ability to build positive and constructive relationships with direct reports.
Strong analytical skills and excellent problem solving and decision-making skills.
Experience with PeopleSoft Financials and relational database querying.
Airline industry or fuel accounting experience.
End-to-end Procedure-to-Pay Process knowledge.
Experience leading non-union and union-represented employees.

Salary Range
$117,850 - $176,800 / year
Salary Details
Pay will be based on multiple factors, including and not limited to location, relevant experience/level and skillset while balancing internal equity relative to other Alaska/Hawaiian/Horizon employees. Alaska/Hawaiian/Horizon is committed to fair, unbiased compensation along with competitive benefits in all locations in which we operate.
Note: We don’t typically hire at the top of the range.
