Role Summary
The Business Development Director is a subject matter expert and thought leader in the multi-year strategy and plan for strategic commercial investments, partnerships, and business development initiatives that drive profit growth and customer benefits, inform strategy, and enable Alaska Air Group’s (AAG) path to its long-term growth and profit targets. As an individual contributor, this role designs and implements innovative solutions to address the company’s business development strategy and requires working with a complex array of both internal and external stakeholders across the breadth of the business.
Key Duties
Identify and execute on significant, impactful decisions regarding multi-year business development strategy and plan, based on input from the executive team and key stakeholders, to enable the company’s path to our long-term profit targets and growth.
Influence AAG’s commercial business model through cross-team partnerships to build strategy, identify targets and craft advantageous deals for sustainable competitive advantages, customer experience and loyalty, and profit growth.
Lead business development activities to source, approach and qualify potential partners. Prioritize, select, and develop opportunities, conduct rigorous diligence and financial modeling, develop business cases, make recommendations, and execute selected opportunities – including ensuring effective stakeholder engagement and communications – to meet objectives for commercial business development.
Collaborate with Supply Chain, Legal, Finance, and other Commercial stakeholders to develop and negotiate term sheets and definitive agreements, structure and execute transactions.
Lead and coordinate projects and programs with cross-functional stakeholders.
Proactively communicate project approach, details, and updates across all levels of the organization and across multiple teams in a clear and concise manner.
Develop business performance metrics for each deal; manage partner relationships to leverage insights and achieve KPIs; monitor business impact (e.g., revenue, penetration, etc.) to AAG.
Deliver regular trends and insights to company executives on technology innovation, competitive activity and spanet, including through strategic relationships to identify trends.
Develop and manage relationships with existing and new external organizations and partners to enable the commercialization of innovation.
Design and implement innovative commercial opportunities from concept through pilot programs and into mainstream activity through well-articulated and metric-driven strategies, and effective stakeholder relationships.
Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills
Required
10 years of experience in business development, partner/loyalty management, strategic planning, or related area.
Bachelor’s degree with a focus in Business Administration, Finance, Economics or related area, or an additional two years of training/experience in lieu of this degree.
Demonstrated relationship management skills, ability to build and grow connections with people of all types and backgrounds, and ability to build effective relationships to influence and develop buy-in in corporate settings and with key stakeholders.
Experience overseeing strategic partnerships and client development, including identifying partners, structuring deal terms, contract negotiation, technical integration and relationship management.
Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to keep multiple projects and client engagements active at once.
Clear, compelling, and effective communication in written and oral form including through business cases and executive presentations.
Superior problem-solving and analytical skills using data-driven, transparent, simple, and logical approaches.
Understanding of airline commercial matters and the competitive environment.
Experience developing and maintaining effective working relationships with stakeholders with the ability to win strong support for ideas.
Able to travel, as appropriate.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Minimum age of 18.
Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
Preferred
MBA or advanced degree in finance or economics strongly preferred.
5 years of experience at an airline or related travel company.
Experience in strategy development and implementation, opportunity valuation, and business development.
Strong understanding of airline and travel industry commercial innovation trends.

Salary Range
$173,350 - $268,700 / year
Total Target Compensation Range (incl. bonus & equity)
$213,287 - $297,370
Salary Details
The pay range and total target compensation package listed above is the expected pay offered for this position at the start of employment. Your pay will be based on multiple factors, including and not limited to location, your relevant experience/level, experience level, and skillset while balancing internal equity relative to other Alaska/Hawaiian/Horizon employees. Alaska/Hawaiian/Horizon is committed to fair, unbiased compensation along with competitive benefits in all locations in which we operate.
Note: We dont typically hire at the top of the range.
