Magellan Aerospace, Llay Wrexham has an exciting opportunity for Cost Accountant.
- Full time, permanent position
- 39 hours per week
- Job location: Llay, Wrexham, LL12 0PB.
- Unionised site – works in partnership with Unite the Union.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys collaborating cross functionally, and driving real impact on business performance. The Cost Accountant, reporting directly to the Head of Finance, will act as the primary contact for 3 operational sites supporting the business with job costing, stock reporting, fixed assets and overhead allocation. They will also support site activities such as stock takes, budget preparations and audits whilst ensuring any escalations are reported and dealt with in a timely and effective manner.
Although based at the Wrexham site, there will be a requirement to travel to other sites within MALUK including the Greyabbey site in Northern Ireland and Blackpool.

Essential Responsibilities
- Build-up and maintenance of product standard costs on computer system
- Monitoring of actual costs against standard and reporting and investigation of variances
- Optimise cost accounting processes (job/product costing, margin analysis) to ensure accurate financial reporting
- Assist in the calculation of machine hourly cost rates
- Lead process improvement initiatives to enhance data, controls, and reporting
- Manage capex process and asset register
- Preparation of weekly/monthly management reports on product profitability
- Assist in preparation of monthly management accounts
- Preparation and monitoring of stock provisions
- Monitor perpetual inventory counting
- Attendance and assistance in the full stock take function
- Preparation and investigation of stock take variances
- Preparation of year-end supporting schedules for internal and external audit
- Preparation of data to assist budget-setting and forecasting processes
- Work with minimum amount of supervision and maintain good level of productivity
- Positively support teamwork and circulation of experience within the finance function
- Work in a safe manner in compliance with company Health & Safety policy. Report and log Health & Safety incidents that occur
- Any other reasonable duties as requested by management in support of the business
Position Requirements
Essential Criteria:
- Demonstratable experience within a multi site manufacturing environment
- Strong costing and management accounting skills
- Qualified Accountant preferably CIMA
- 3-4 years experience in a cost accountant role
- Looks to improve processes
- SAP experience
Desirable Criteria:
- Aerospace experience desirable but not necessary
- Educated to a degree level
Key Competencies:
- Highly IT proficient. Advanced excel user with experience of integrated computer systems (SAP)
- Very hands-on approach; need to get close and to understand production processes
- Happy to work in non-financial environment but with main line report to Finance
- Role will have close liaison with production and IT staff, good team player therefore needed
- Experience of constructing forecasting and budgeting models
